I would like to thank the exhibitors for a very good entry. Many of them travelled long distances at a difficult time of the year to give me the pleasure of going over their dogs. I was originally due to judge the dogs only but due to the bitch judge, Wendy Hulbert, being taken ill I was asked to judge bitches also. I really enjoyed my day, made even better by the wonderful hospitality of the committee, not forgetting the delicious lunch provided by Bert Easdon and Philip Martin.
Due to the large number of classes that I judged I decided to report on my main winners only.
BPD and BMPIS went to Howard’s Tameron Mr CK Wun. A 6 month black and white puppy. Mature for his age, full of confidence, showed and moved well. A heavy boned puppy with a lovely spring of rib, good broad head and nice tail set. One to watch in the future.
BPB and BPIS went to Anderton’s 10 month old Pekoe Pick Me Up. Gold and White puppy with a lovely nature, firm body. Shown in good coat for her age. She moved with style and confidence. Lovely head and mouth. Good level topline and correct tailset. She should have a bright future ahead of her.
My Dog CC and eventual BIS went to Crossley’s Ch Santosha Stromboli. This is one I have admired from the ringside. When I went over to him I was in no way disappointed. He well came up to expectations. Beautiful strong masculine head with an expression I am looking for. Good reach of neck. Lovely high tailset. He moved with good rear drive so necessary in our breed. A worthy Champion.
Res CC Lord’s Huxlor Trigger Happy. A beautifully marked deep gold and white dog. Very different in type to my CC winner. A very nice dog to go over. He has a super spring of rib and good bone for his size. His outline is very eye catching both standing and on the move and his head and expression completed the picture. I am surprised he has not already gained his title.
The bitch CC winner was Howard’s Ch Tameron Miss Contradiction. An exquisite and truly feminine bitch. Lovely head and expression. Good firm body with excellent spring of rib. However it was her movement which impressed me. She really flowed across the ring and I was not surprised to find that she had wonderful angulation so often lacking nowadays in the breed.
My Res bitch CC winner was Lord’s Huxlor Triggered Fantasy. A beautifully balanced bitch with such lovely balance. She was shown with a good firm heavy body for her size. Moved so easily with confidence. I was not surprised to note later that she was sired by the Res dog CC winner. There is certainly a type being produced from this kennel. Best VD was Hilliard’s Weatsom He’s Magic. 10 years old and holding his age so well. What a lovely sound mover. He really enjoyed being shown. A credit to his owner.
BVB and BVIS went to Brown’s Rossvale She’s No Angel. I love to watch the veteran classes and this bitch did credit to her owner breeders. She showed well in her class where she was the only one but when in the challenge remembered what showing is about and really came to life. Generally I was very pleased with the quality of exhibits shown under me. We really need to remember that movement is so important in this breed. This is where we see the tru Shih Tzu. It should move effortlessly and flow showing good rear action. I loved my main winners but was also very excited by several young class winners who I’m sure will give their owners much pleasure in the future.
