It is an honour to be i I was hoping that the Shih Tzu at Crufts would be of an all round higher standard than at other Championship shows, sadly I was disappointed. We have always had that veneer of top quality dogs but it no longer has the depth that it once had. Breeders ask yourselves, when the best stud dogs in the country are - or should be - available, why not choose one? Equally, if you really want something good to show, why breed from a bitch lacking the necessary quality? Faults were numerous and varied from small, light eyes, high placed ears through to movement and the reasons behind poor movement. True Shih Tzu movement has almost disappeared. The rear end is the engine room of movement. There is no such thing as a ‘flick’ of the rear pads. Can you find that word in the standard? Real drive at the rear, which the breed should have, is not brought about by any mere flick. Rear legs should reach well under the body then push out firmly backwards, extending to show full pads and not giving the appearance of bicycle pedals going round. The standard makes no mention that front legs should be straight. So why are there so many with upright shoulders and narrow chests with the inevitable terrier like fronts? Some brighter spots did appear through the day, particularly in the bitch classes. This must give hope for the future as the strength of any breed must lie with the girls. The top stud dogs can sire many litters so please, if you want quality, use quality parents.

to his owners.

difficult decision, just lost on pigmentation.

Venustus - Chestnut and White, Excellent type with very good head
and expression. Very good mouth. Good tail set and in good coat.
Moved very well.
2 O’Donnell’s Chiaru I’m A Celebrity - Gold and
White - also excelled in head and expression. Very good mouth. Very
sound and correct movement but not quite the sparkle of winner.

Moved and showed well but not yet the finish of winner.

light in the eye for me. In very good coat, well presented, moved
well.
3 Scannells Jacquinta If By Chance - Black and white - Good
head, in good coat but could have moved better.

In excellent coat but close rear movement proved costly.

and Malone - Mirazian Artist Impression - Grey and White - Again a
good type dog in good coat but let down by movement on the day.

year old Gold and White dog of Excellent type. Great head, well
spaced dark eyes, wide nostrils, sensible nose length leading to
good stop. Excellent coat with good undercoat. Good tail set. Moved
well. Just needs to gain full confidence to go to the top.

Hiona Fly Me to the Moon - 2yrs. Dark grey and white with very good
head and expression. Good dark eyes, good stop, ears correctly
placed. All together made an attractive picture. Well balanced, in
excellent coat. Moved very well.
3 Farnsworths Tsantha Moulin Rouge
- another young man with excellent head and expression. Well
balanced with very good tail set. Moved very well. Just needs that
extra coat to finish.

3yr. old dog with the most wonderful head and expression . Excellent
mouth, very dark round eyes, just everything a Shih Tzu head should
be. Moved very soundly. In glorious coat and condition. How does
anyone travel so far and prepare a Shih Tzu for Crufts, in a
Coventry hotel room, to such a high standard? Dog C.C. and BOB.

1 Paczkowski’s Lauramist Kiss Me Kate - Gold and White, she
excels in head and expression. Not yet 1yr. old she already has that
slightly aloof air. An excellent coat for her age, the presentation
was 1st class. Very sound and correct on the move.

Martin’s Yakee Show Stopper - also Gold and White with all the
attributes to reach the top.

another little cracker, it was so very close between these three.

type. Moved well at all times.

Black and White. Not a calendar girl, this lady likes to keep her
charms well covered. On the table revealed all proving glamour is
only coat deep .An excellent head, ears correctly placed, round dark
eyes, very good nose placement. Good deep ribcage, well balanced,
very good tail set, all combined with sound, correct movement gave
her the well deserved B.C.C.

years gold and white with very good head and expression. Good nose
placement, dark eyes. Well balanced which she retained while moving
very smartly.
3 Laaksonen Tamaria Mayflower - from the same owner as
the Dog C.C. this one also had a very good head and expression. In
excellent coat moving well. Just a little overweight.
