A most enjoyable day with a delightful and enjoyable breed. Presentation has moved on from my early days in the breed (1970s) and not altogether for the better. I did look beyond the over zealous use of the scissors, but the excessive use of lacquer and highly scented coat preparations were more difficult to ignore as these do change the coat texture. Dentition in the younger stock was excellent, with wide jaws and strong teeth. Eye colour and shape much improved from the last time I judged, also tailset and carriage. Spring of rib was more difficult to find. Long, narrow ribcages coupled with finer bone and slightly higher on the leg giving an untypicat outline was the downside of the day, Judging is all about compromises and no exhibit possesses all the desired breed points so we can all strive to breed the perfect Shih Tzu’! I feel it is essential to reward the exhibits with the positive attributes that make the Shih Tzu unique. Arrogance, expressive eyes, an “in your face” attitude, sturdy bone, depth and width of ribs, powerful, yet effortless, driving movement with head held high and proud, very elusive attributes in the breed as it is today. Thank you for accepting my placings with good grace. As exhibitors you paid for my opinion and like it or not that is exactly what you got, my interpretation of the Breed Standard no one elses’! I care very deeply for the Shih Tzu and my critique reflects my concerns for its future.

Minor Puppy Dog
*class view*
1 Chanikos See The Dream
6 months Red Gold / White. Full of enthusiasm & energy, danced his way through the day but showed enough sound, controlled movement to head a class cf  promising babies. The most beautiful expressive head, ample bone & teapot tail. Put down in sparkling condition.
2 Symaraju Mr Bojangles
Very glamorous 6 months G/W, dark eye. good width of jaw, balanced outline, sturdy bone, ex. tail carriage, moved with drive. Not so outgoing as 1st.
3 Prengast Preseu Essence
4 Mifcah's Catch Me If You Can
5 Rossvale True Destiny

Puppy Dog
1 Casamays Cloony at Kayasin
smart 10 months B/W. Ex. eye & nose placement, wide muzzle. Proudly carried head. Lovely forward reach & rear drive.

Preferred the overall balance of 1st
3 Hyogi Enter Sandman
4 Bonnie Bruno of Sebastopol

Junior Dog
1 Krisquest Top Gun
A glamorous young man who cannot be ignored as he personifies what makes the Shih Tzu unique:- arrogance, intelligence and “in your face” attitude, he flowed into the ring with so much confidence and immediately held my eye & followed me throughout the class. For perfection I would prefer stronger head features and only maturity will give him firmness of body. The quality of males in particular, has seriously declined over the last 10-15 years and a free standing arrogant male is a joy to find.
2 Passionelle Way Out West
13 months B/W. Really liked this young man, has an eyecatching coat pattern of ex. texture. Stronger head features than 1st. Loved his outline, moves with power and drive but lacked the arrogant head carriage on the move, hence his 2nd placing

Ir Ch Virtulvilage Bobby Dazzler Fully matured g/w shown in hard condition and beautifully prepared coat of ex. texture. Ex, spring of rib, level topline, teapot tail. Moved at a steady pace to show off his free flowing, effortless movement. Good width of skull & muzzle with ex. bite. Preferred the more arrogant attitude and head carriage on the move of )unior dog but overall I felt Bobby dazzler was the Best male and most “complete package” on the day. C.C & RBIS.

Minor Puppy Bitch
1 Zuthis Elektrik Shock
7 months Solid black. Full of attitude with the most wicked expression. There is something so extra special about solids, they really do live up to the “active & alert’ part of the Standard and are extremely difficult to overlook. Just right for her age, well balanced, ex. rib cage & teapot tail. Moves with purpose and determination.
2 Rossvale Miss Scarlett
7 months G/W. Very “girlie”, pretty head & expression, makes a stunning impression. Well balanced, complimentary head & tail carriage. Put down in immaculate puppy coat. A very composed baby who moves well. Pushed hard for 1st place, just preferred the more animated style of 1st.
3 Sonoltay No More The Fool
4 Casrose Miss Ellie May
5 Fleurdelis at Saraten

Puppy Bitch
1 Ded Dazzling by Zuthis
8 months solid gold. More mature than her kennel mate, very expressive head. Good depth of ribs, sturdy bone, balanced outline, coat of correct texture. Head held high & proud. Loved her attitude and the more she moved the more I was drawn to her. She always looked just right and although very young the finai assessment for the RES CC. I felt she had a wonderful "freshness" about her and was "asking" for the award whilst the more mature exhibits were being a little demure.
2 Kanba Busy Bee
11 months B/W. Impressive puppy with a beautiful head, warm, expressive eyes, teapot tail. I liked her overall shape  1st was a little freeer in movement
3 Marhilway Just One Look

Junior Bitch
1 Bellwaycharm Heavenly Trio 16 months paler G/W. Liked her overall balance, very expressive head, ex. width between eyes, wide muzzle. Moved with style and attitude.
2 Jenkapa Harlequin Lady 17 months B/W. Very pretty, ex. pigment, kept topline on the move. Bit silly with tail carriage at times, a bit in between stages at the moment but her adult coat is coming through nicely. A little longer cast than 1st.

Graduate Bitch
1 Keytor Careless Whisper
B/W. A very pretty bitch that I liked very much. Complimentary head & tail carriage, moves with such style. Very much in mind for the CC & RES. A touch light in condition edged her out of contention. A lovely bitch that oozes breed type.
2 Harropine Secret Star
VHC in Jun. Solid gold. Sturdy well proportioned bitch who moved with attitude & style
3 Chelhama Midnight Lace
4 Cabbla Raring To Go with Incola

Post Graduate Bitch
1
Santosha Struttin' Her Stuff at Dolha 2 years G/W. I though this bitch just lovely and she was like a breath of “fresh air” even though she took me back 20 years. So full of life and attitude, an absolute pleasure to watch her sail around the ring with effortless movement & so much style. She was just what I had been hoping for all day! Good spring of rib, sturdy bone, teapot tail and the most beautiful, expressive head. Ex. pigment, lovely expressive eyes. The more she moved the better she looked. Her enthusiasm and lively attitude took her all the way to B/S.
2 Cabbala Gilt Edged at Marhilway
. A very pretty G/W with arrogant attitude & very much full of her own importance. Well put together & moves with good forward reach & rear drive. Very in between coats.

Limit Bitch
1 Rossvale She's Bewitching
G/W. Has matured into a lovely bitch who was beautifully put down. Lovely head with a “melting” expression. Ex. bone, ribcage & substance. A really nice bitch who looks just right from all angles. Moved with purpose to win this.class. Another strong contender for the top awards but just gave up a little in the final movement.
2 Cabbala Needs No Frills at Harrimma
Brindle I white. A top quality bitch who put her heart & soul into her movement. Liked her overall balance & tail carriage. Uses her neck to advantage. Very expressive head qualities. Not quite the overall finished picture of 1st.

Open Bitch
1 Ch Chanikos Justa Dream
A quality bitch who presents a lovely outline. Very pretty, moves with grace & style. Ex. balance of head & tail carriage. A little finer all round than my main winners but well deserving of her title.
2 Debeaux Cause I Can
B/W. Balanced outline standing, but lacks neck on the move. Good head properties. Lacks finish.
3 Ch Mifcah's Move Over Dad

Veteran Bitch
1 Ch Wynele Sing Linnet Sing
At 101/2 years this G/W looked just as gorgeous as she did when she won her title. Shown in ex. condition and full coat. Very feminine and all quality. Moved with such style and arrogance in this class. Just slowed up a little in the challenge which edged her out of the top awards. Just lovely.
