My thanks to the society for inviting me to judge, to the exhibitors for their entries and my 2 stewards for an efficiently run day. But oh dear what is happening to our lovely breed. Where have all the lovely big round dark eyes that fill the face and dare you to ignore them gone? The majority of eyes today are small and do not fill the socket, so instead of the lovely warm soft expression you get one that just stares at you, leaving you cold. To clarify that I do not mean big bulging eyes that are open to injury, but the large round dark brown eye that is so much a feature of this breed. Also sadly lacking is the barrel rib cage and short legs that give the required "Ship in full sail" movement as the rear legs drive the dog round the ring, showing a full pad. The first 3 bitch classes gave me some hope that all is not lost, yet, but with so few kennels breeding to the correct type for the Standard these special breed qualities are in danger of disappearing and once gone, how do we get them back? Mouths are a mixture, some too undershot and 2 with 4 teeth and 2 gaps, giving the impression that teeth have been lost. I did not in the main penalize for mouths as I felt the eyes and construction to be of more importance.

1st: Mr R & Mrs B J ROBERTS Zuthis Izzy Wizzy One look at this B/W boys head took me back years to what most of the breed looked like. beautiful large round head with short tip tilted nose, darkest of eyes set wide apart. Body of correct proportions, barrel ribcage, short legs, giving free flowing movement, correct tail carried well over the back. Level top line Could not resist awarding him the RCC & BP.
2nd: Mrs C A & Miss C M BOYLE Berinshill Raz Daz B/W again with good bone and ribs. correct in head, level topline, moved well.

Solid Gold with large head those soft expressive eyes, short nose, enough neck leading into well laid back shoulders, good barrel ribcage, heavy bone, level topline, correct teapot handle tail beautifully groomed. His correct construction enabled him to sail round the ring effortlessly showing a full pad. CC his first. Good luck with him.
