Darwen Cs 16.12.06

Thank you to the committee of Darwen Canine Society for inviting me to judge at their show. Many thanks too, to all the exhibitors who turned out for me at this open show, it was much appreciated considering the time and preparation which goes into our breed and especially when everyone is so busy with the festive season approaching. PD/B (5,4a) 1 Shantrionna Seventh Heaven – 6 month old g/w puppy dog beautiful head and expression with excellent nose placement. Good reach of neck and lovely tail carriage, in exceptional condition and coat for his age, moved with ease, a very promising baby, was delighted to award him Best Puppy. PD/B (12,5a) 1 Santosha Casanova to Hajenza. Solid Gold dog with an exquisite head and expression which caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring. Lovely reach of neck and depth of rib cage with a level topline and superb tail carriage which just completed the picture when on the move. Coat was in fabulous condition and beautifully presented. 2 Shantrionna Fairy Maiden – 12month old g/w bitch again in lovely condition. Very pleasing head, with a very dark eye. Good lay back of shoulder with a level topline and an excellent deep chest which was well let down, this girl did not make life easy for her handler still very much a baby but should mature nicely. 3 Marinbox No Matter What. OD/B (14,9a) 1 Santosha Lucky Charm – Gold/White Bitch with sweetest of expressions. This bitch has a beautiful dark eye, good width of skull and perfect nose placement. Good reach of neck, and lay back of shoulder with a deep rounded chest and level topline, finished with good tail placement completed the picture. A pleasure to award Best Of Breed. 2 Mirazian Symbol of Freedom – Gold/White Dog who was presented to perfection. Lovely dark eye, good reach of neck nicely bodied and level topline, just preferred the movement of 1 on the day. 3 Mirazian Artist Impression.

J 1 Harvey’s Delmarvey’s Shooting Star. Male of good substance and bone, lovely typical head, strong neck, well placed shoulders, appropriate and complimentary rear construction. Shade longer cast than the ideal, not helped visually by low tail set. Moved with drive. O 1 Harvey’s Delmarvey’s High Society. Really nice bitch of correct balance, loved her head. Tail set is a shade low, could be carried better over the back, but carried her topline well both moving and standing. Front and rear angles compliment each other, moved with drive, clear view of pads. BOB.

G 1 Moore’s Fillipers A Cut Above. Excelled in head and expression, very well balanced, lovely chest shape, topline better on the floor and moving than it was on the table, very steady mover. Pushed very hard in the BOB and Puppy group competition, has much potential. BPB. 2 Allen’s Rignolla Olympic Gold. O 1 Strangeland’s Weatsom Repeat Prescription. Not the most confident of those present today which is what the deficit was in the group, but just shouted of breed type, a true expression and bearing that is amongst the hallmarks of the breed. Sound on the move, so well put together, if I was going to take anything home today, this would have been the one. BOB. 2 Duffin-Penney’s Daltricia Idomeneus RBOB. 3 Shaw’s Mr Buzz Bee.

I would like to thank the COmmittee for inviting me to join their panel of Judges for this Spring Event & for their most generaous & v useful gifts. I appreciated the warm & friendly welcome, together with first class catering. My thanks also goes to the Exhibitors for their sporting acceptance of my decisions. Many promising youngsters were entered in the Puppy Stakes Class, an entry of 44 exhibits. I was sorry to observe several exhibits who would not or could not move in a straight line for assessment on movement, although they were given ample opportunity in this respect. One may wonder why Judges are placed in this situation with many quality dogs, is it perhaps too much baiting at the outset from their handlers? This over-baiting does spoil the exhibits of giving of their best on individual movement, & also prevents the Judge from open access when wishing to closely examine the dogs head, teeth, front etc, it is a case of Judges having to tussle with the handlers & takes up necessary time for the Organisers timetable. I was v pleased with the final line-up for BIS etc which the Group Judges had sent forward, some v gd quality dogs. I much appreciated the excellent & efficient stewarding of Peter ... who was my Steward throughout the show. Thank you. BIS My BIS award went to Goodwin’s homebred Shih Tzu Chelhama Top Of The Bill. RBIS was Such’s homebred Belgian Shepherd Dog (Terveuren) Norlyght Z’Ha’Dum. BPIS My BPIS award went to Bassett’s well-bred Borzoi Borodina Czar of Colhugh. My thanks to the committee for giving me this opportunity and their Scottish hospitality. My thanks also to the exhibitors for the opportunity to handle their dogs and acceptance of my decisions. It was a pleasure to go over clean well presented dogs. On the down side, it was a little disappointing to find several dogs with very narrow shallow ribcages, mainly in the younger dogs, so hopefully these will develop. J. (10). 1.
